MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS AT FILM BAZAR, IFFI ON 24.11.2015 AT MARRIOT RESORT, GOA
Ministry of Railways conducted a symposium organized by National Film Development Corporation today i.e 24.11.2015 at Film Bazar, Marriot Resort, Goa as part of the 46th India International Film Festival. The objective of the symposium was to interact with the International and Domestic Film Industry, to understand the point of view of the Industry and to educate them about the logic behind the rules and procedures of Govt. of India.
Mr. Narendra A. Patil, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway on behalf of Ministry of Railways led the symposium. He highlighted historically how Indian Railways played a big part in film making in India. Mr. Patil also brought out the problems being faced by the Industry and also invited suggestions for making necessary policy changes in the rules and procedures. Mr. Patil highlighted that the Hon’ble Railway Minister, Shri Suresh Prabhu wants to ease the permission procedures with a caution to keep safety aspect of the passengers in mind. Mr. Patil stressed upon the need to work jointly for making film shooting in India especially with Indian Railways easy and simple. He also suggested various beautiful locations which can be made available for the film industry to shoot their films across India. A list of such locations will be made available for the film makers. He highlighted the facility of booking special train on various Hill Railways for film shooting.
Many stalwarts of Film Industry like Shyam Benegal, Prakash Jha, Anubhav Sinha and International Film Makers, Ms. Gisella Carr, Ms. Ruth Harley participated in this symposium. Documentary Film Maker Mr. Raman Lamba and Producers Mr. Pravesh Sahni and Mr. Iqbal Kidwai were also present on the occasion. Mr. Prakash Jha suggested Railways to identify unused locations to be developed as a film shooting location, which will not hamper the normal operations of Railways. Shri Shyam Benegal shared his wonderful experience & cooperation he had with Indian Railways while making of his TV series called “Yatra”. The film maker Mr. Anubhav Sinha suggested that the film shooting need to rationalize according to the kind of film ie. Different rates for feature film, documentary film, regional film, photo shoots etc.
It was decided that, Ministry of Railways along with Film Industry will work jointly to effect positive policy changes in permissions for film shooting on Indian Railways, which will enhance the image of India as a major International film shooting destination.
